Google is pumping 350 million U.S. dollars in green projects

Google is investing 100 million U.S. dollars in what will be the world's largest wind farm: the Shepherd's Flat American Oregon.

Previously, the technology giant already pumped some 128 million U.S. dollars in a plant for solar energy. This brings the total investment by Google in green projects at more than 350 million U.S. dollars.

According to Alexis Madrigal from The Atlantic's Google's recent investment interesting for two reasons. First, the company puts money into existing projects rather than research into green energy, while other technology companies such as LG and Samsung announce that they want to do the latter. Second comes money Google.inc, the company behind the search engine itself and not the green project of Google.org, the charitable arm of the technology giant. This means that Google wants to get profit from the investment in green energy.

According to Dallas Kasha, head of Kasha and Co, a company engaged in research and consultancy on renewable energy, Google would be able to retrieve some six percent from its investments. Though that percentage varies naturally from project to project.

The money from Google is certainly welcome for the projects. Since the 2008 financial crisis, it is difficult to provide the necessary funding to get together. According Kasha Google has an interest in green electricity, as the company, having to staff, spends most of energy. (knack.rnews.be / The Atlantic / LV)
